"What I feared had already come to pass. I'd softened for a adult female, made a conclusion based on emotions rather than logic. The Skull Male monarch trilogy was well written from start to finish. Packed with action, malaise, violence, sex, and near importantly beloved....it had all the ingredients to arrive a 5 star read. Now I know some complain virtually all her serial being too similar and I tin run into the "effect". But she follows a specific model that has worked for her, and she adds in dissimilar elements and "worlds" within her Penelope universe to make each couples story worth investing in. Diehard fans can typically tell how her stories will terminate, BUT there is ever a dissimilar spin on the journey getting there.
At the end of The Skull Crusher, I was over the moon.
Seriously, Balto decided to non go through with trading her back to Lucian....but I knew that there was bound to be something that went wrong, otherwise what would The Skull Ruler be near? Well I was in for a treat.
The final installment is told in dual POV picking upward right where volume 2 left off. It contains violence and sexual situations.
Synopsis:
"She's worth more than all the diamonds in the world—just you already knew that."
Balto has decided to back out of the bargain with Lucian. He refuses to trade Cassini no affair the rewards or the consequences. Instead, he vows to protect her and fight her enemies so that she can finally have the freedom to live the life she deserves....even though he knows it won't be with him. No affair how he feels most her, she has no identify in his world, so in one case information technology'southward safe for her to leave he'southward letting her go.
"All I wanted was for her to be happy, to have the life that was taken from her. Now she knew how a real man treated a woman, how a human should sacrifice everything for his adult female."
Cassini loves Balto and hopes that she can change his heed before their expiration date. With no plans to take down Lucian, Balto is only prolonging the inevitable. But when Lucian makes a move confronting Balto that has devastating consequences for Cassini, he forces Balto to make a motion. (view spoiler)[ Lucian has Case and demands Cassini in exchange (hide spoiler)] Problem is, Balto intends to give Lucian a much more than valuable person instead.
This was me, seriously.
Simply Cassini will not stand by and do naught. Subsequently everything Lucian has put her through, she demands revenge and boy does she get it. (view spoiler)[ Lucian dies in a poetic type of way (hide spoiler)]
Seriously, You lot Go Girl
With the threat gone, Cassini is prepare to trade in the freedom Balto offers for a place by his side. She loves him and his actions have proven he feels the same despite his refusal to admit it. But Balto knows the risks of what beingness his Skull Queen would bring, and he refuses....making her leave.
"A selfish asshole would stay, only I'm not a selfish asshole…at to the lowest degree non when it comes to her."
I went from.....
to this....
My emotions were everywhere.
Cassini is determined to live the life she deserves, with or without Balto. And Balto refuses to give up existence The Skull King despite being without the i woman who penetrated his cold, empty eye. But when Cassini is hit with and unexpected surprise, (view spoiler)[I mean with a book that talks about filling her to chapters with come up every nighttime, how is she so surprised....but whatever (hide spoiler)], and it gives her more of an incentive to move on.
"He would never actually belong to me. I would ever be 2nd priority. That was something I couldn't live with. And then he ended that possibility before we could even consider it."
Balto knows to have the woman he loves, he has to tell her how he feels and requite up the only thing he's known for the last decade.....but is being the rex worth information technology when his queen isn't by his side? And if he gave it all upwards, could he actually be happy with a wearisome life as a family man? It takes him MONTHS to brand up his mind, and it's a miserable being while he does.
"You've always been mine, even when you lot belonged to someone else."
In standard Penelope fashion, there is a HEA---but information technology doesn't come up without tons of angst, heartbreak, reckless behavior, and stone lesser.
"The nighttime we met, my life inverse forever, and I think in that exact moment I cruel pathetically in beloved with you. My dick never stays in my pants, but the second I had you lot, I didn't want anyone else. There are so many beautiful women out in that location, but in one case you stepped into my life, I stopped noticing anyone else but yous. Beloved is a concept I struggle to understand, merely when a human being becomes true-blue to a woman, that's love. That's not lust, obsession, or a fuck-buddy situation. That'south simply love, baby."
Characters:
As much every bit I loved Cassini in the first ii installments, she made me fall even more in dearest with her in book 3. Her strength is unmatched by whatever other female person lead (at least as far dorsum equally I can remember). She isn't stubborn just for the sake of beingness stubborn, she refuses to accept or settle for anything less than everything. She's a fighter and I dear that she takes every blow with grace. She gets to show a chip of her ruthless side, and proves she shouldn't exist underestimated.
"Y'all're the only woman in the world who has ever meant anything to me. I would die for y'all—e'er. Yous won't exist part of my life, but that doesn't mean you won't have my heart. You'll always have it with you, no matter how much time has passed. Even when you beloved someone else, my heart will yet exist yours."
Balto did some things in this book that fabricated me dearest him even more. He did things that bankrupt my heart. And he also did things that fabricated be blind with rage. But in that location was no dubiousness that he loved Cassini and would trade his life for hers, all except giving upwardly his position and the power that came with it. He is bullheaded and refuses to take any change that Cassini brought out of him. And because of that he spends some fourth dimension in this book at rock lesser. But there is a blazon of redemption for him, and I loved that he got his HEA despite non thinking it was possible. He is tied with Crow as my top book bf from Penelope. And the way he says infant when referring to Cassini (hell about of the words that come out his oral cavity concerning her) had me totally sighing to myself often.
"Kiss me like that once more, and I'll break your mitt." I released her then glared upwardly at her. Instead of beingness aroused, she smiled. "The king has a queen…"
Final Thoughts:
"Baby, I'll always exist the Skull King. And you'll always be my queen."
If you love Penelope and her stories, this one will definitely satisfy your Pen craving. If y'all haven't read anything from her, this is a cracking intro to her work (but read her Buttons serial afterwards). Of the three books in this trilogy, I have to say this 1 is my favorite because of the growth of both characters and the final chapter of their relationship. I just promise we run into more of these characters from the Skull "world" in futurity series (hint: Case and Heath

As Balto drives Cassini back to his compound she cannot help but think Balto has saved her life and will keep her with him. Could she hope for love?Balto is a pragmatist. Keeping Cassini is not possible while he is The Skull Rex. Once he made the determination to be Rex, he also knew he would never be able to have children or a wife. Too unsafe to have someone his enemies could hurt and so hurt him. No matter what emotions he feels for Cassini, their relationship is at an end. All that is left is to ensure Lucian will never come after Cassini again. She deserves the life she dreamed of: a house, white picket fend, and children running around in rubber and honey.
Every bit you lot tin can expect, Lucian will never requite up getting Cassini back. Equally Balto and Lucian fight this out and strategize each other's downfall, Cassini is left hollowed out knowing she must requite up Balto in one case he sets her free.
The plot explodes fast and furious equally these men plot their demise. I felt bad for Cassini. Will she get a suspension and end up with someone who will love her and keep her safe? Do non miss the conclusion of the Skull Rex!
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the writer for sharing a copy with me.
...more thanWhat turned me off was him giving up everything for this woman. Massive injustice to his character in the very first volume. He was a full badass in the first volume. If he was such a badass there was no need for him to requite up being the Skull King. I become why the author wrote it this fashion and why? I'm just not down with it. Well this was disappointing. I'd really give this a 2.75 if I could. Loved Balto's character. What turned me off was him giving upwardly everything for this woman. Massive injustice to his grapheme in the very start volume. He was a full badass in the first book. If he was such a badass at that place was no need for him to requite up being the Skull Male monarch. I get why the author wrote it this way and why? I'm just non downwardly with information technology. I'm non down with guys having to cease being who they are but to get a adult female. I wouldn't allow some guy to tell me this in real life so why should guys? I guess I'thou a woman who wants men to exist men. If you're going to become in bed with a criminal and he tells y'all he is a criminal and he has killed people then don't go in bed with him. Adequately elementary really. If yous practice get in bed with a criminal then you accept who and what he is. The ending was unrealistic to me. Very few women get the opportunity to successfully led men in the criminal underworld abroad from that life in real life. It just doesn't happen. Style to fairy tale ish for me for me as a dark romance.
I besides wouldn't classify this equally a dark romance story. Totally, non a dark romance. Nope.
...more thanCassina and Balto deserves the happy catastrophe. ❤️💯
This particular volume I'd rate three.5 stars!
Serial rating 4.
Balto and Cassini had me in tears in this third and concluding book of the series. So much happened here merely still kept me hooked on every discussion when I felt broken hearted for Cassini.
This series is so freaking skillful and romantic and nerve wrecking and allow'due south non forget eroticallly charged too. I swear it'southward the best serial I take read this year so far topping whatever other. Enjoy!!!
Balto and Cassini had me in tears in this 3rd and final book of the series. So much happened hither but still kept me hooked on every word when I felt cleaved hearted for Cassini.

But I loved reading this series so much.
I don't want this to exist done already.. I'm so in beloved with this series, with Balto, Cassini, Case, Heath... Dirk rarely made an appearance and even then, he was quiet. Haha. But I loved reading this serial so much.
...moreSpoilers….
I hated Cassini'due south graphic symbol in this volume. Non only was she all the same whiney, simply she was totally self absorbed. She ever fabricated Balto out to exist the bad guy to her brothers, considering she didn't desire to look bad (never told them how they truly met and the made him out to be deadbeat). She wanted him to give up everything, but never even offered any insight on what that would look like. He told her that being the Skull King was his identity and he couldn't see himself as anything else and she had zero to offer him than her love. Like she didn't say, we tin figure it out, enquire him what he liked other than drinking and killing, etc., all she cared well-nigh was getting what she wanted. He was literally supposed to give up everything for her, still she had zero to offering in return besides her beloved. Information technology'southward not like she really had annihilation going for herself, then I felt like she never really understood the magnitude of her request equally she never had anything to lose or fifty-fifty offering to lose. She couldn't fifty-fifty imagine loosing her dream of a family, just was supposedly to lose his reality with no questions or hesitations.
I was besides so tired of hearing about his "load," all the time. It was crass to begin with, but it's overuse totally made information technology cringy.
In that location was definitely some plot holes in the whole pregnancy trope, I'1000 from the US, then possibly there are other meds in other countries in which this applies, but Depo shots but lasts for 3 months, not half-dozen; Nausea and airsickness usually improves subsequently the commencement trimester, not start (though I'll admit it's not impossible). Also she talks about morning sickness as though it only happens in the AM and once you lot throw up and so all is expert. I've personally never come up across a women with pregnancy induced nausea and vomiting who immediately feels well plenty later on vomiting to scarf down a big breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and bacon. It's not similar when you've rated some bad food and once you throw upwards, you lot feel then much better; The underlying cause is and then different. Besides am I the only 1 who thought it was odd that she talked about being in the avant-garde stages of pregnancy, to include swelling in the hands and feet, yet she was in missionary position during their intimate times. If she was that advanced, she would have already been brash not to lay fully supine and they would have started to have to get creative with positions by this time. Also for her to be that far forth in her pregnancy before her showtime kid turned ane, definitely meant she got pregnant back to back lol
Another set of plot holes was his whole resignation. He was widely known in the underworld and had known enemies. Do these enemies just surrender, considering he retired? Like how could they stay living in the same city with his past? What was to keep people from mistaking him from his blood brother. Or attacking him and his family to get at Heath. Like all the reasons he said he couldn't stay with Cassini are the sake reasons I would take expected them to leave the surface area in one case he retired. I guess enemies surrender once yous resign lol
Overall the series was decent, I just wish it was more believable toward the end.

This is the first time that i've had to wait for the next installment in a series and i don't know that i liked information technology! Considering i've been so immersed in the other stories that our amazing author has penned, it took me a second to get dorsum into the swing of things with Cassini and Balto. In one case i got a few pages in though, it was like i was back where we were with them. The dynamic hither is an interesting one – we know that Cassini was forced into all of her situations, being with Lucien because her swain at the fourth dimension got mixed up in a few things (until we learned that wasn't really the case and he was paid to paw Cassini over), and so Cassini found herself 'willingly forced' into her relationship with Balto. There wasn't a safer place to exist, but the struggle here was real.
In this third installment, nosotros come up to the signal in fourth dimension where Balto has to make the trade back with Lucien to go his skull diamond – that means giving Cassini back which in his head isn't such a hard chore since he's the Skull King and beingness in a committed relationship isn't in the cards for him. When the time comes though and Cassini makes it clear that she's got nothing to live for and she'll just kill herself if she goes dorsum, well that pulls at Balto's centre and we find ourselves at an impasse – where the trade doesn't happen and we know that there will be implications.
That's the undertone for the rest of the story. When will Lucien strike since nosotros know that he considers Cassini his property, and who will die when this interaction happens. Lucien is a magician with explosives, and so that makes things more complicated since Balto isn't willing to mindlessly go into anything with him without preparation. The choice is taken away when someone they love is taken as collateral, and our story takes however another turn.
Just when nosotros think that these interactions are bringing Balto and Cassini closer together, we find that Balto is so set in his ways that information technology tears them apart. He gives Cassini her freedom, and with that, she still chooses him. that'south not an choice for him and he does everything that he can to push her abroad. Similar to how nosotros see this play out in all of Ms Sky's stories, we terminate up seeing Cassini detect her ground in a new life, with the aid of her brothers. Yet more than unexpected things happen now that she'south without Balto, and of course that means that our story will take more weaves on this rollercoaster.
The questions notwithstanding beg to be asked, who will make it out alive and who volition be happy. What roles will Heath, Case and Dirk play in everything and what does the future hold for the Skull King? Is Cassini strong plenty to be on her own, create a new life and move on? Well nosotros know the respond to that since all Penelope Heaven leading ladies are beyond capable. I'yard sad to encounter the closure come to this story and i can't wait to see what's next.
...more thanAs nosotros know from all the previous books Lucian isn't wiling to give up Cassini without a fight, but Balto vows to fight to give Cassini the free life she deserves. In this
The Skull Ruler is the final book of the Skull Rex Serial! Afterwards the way the second book ended I could inappreciably look the unabridged month to get the rest of the story! Nosotros keep with Cassini and Balto and pick up correct where book two left off, Balto had only decided that he couldn't give Cassini back to Lucian no matter the advantage. As we know from all the previous books Lucian isn't wiling to give up Cassini without a fight, but Balto vows to fight to give Cassini the free life she deserves. In this third installment, we really go to delve deeper into Balto'south life, and how he concluded up beingness this cold and calculating person. Cassini in this third volume becomes even more of a badass than I ever idea possible, lets only say yous'll know when y'all become to that point in the book!
We get to run into more of Cassini's siblings and how they truly would do annihilation and everything in their ability to make their sis happy, while as well protecting her above everything else. I ever love getting to delve deeper into these characters and learning more of their stories and while some of them were heartbreaking, it just makes yous honey them even more!
As always this volume is full of suspense that will keep you on the border of your seat, ever questioning what's coming adjacent around the corner, enough of steamy ones, at times you'll experience like your heart is bursting with happiness, and they might get their happily ever after, and maybe fifty-fifty a few moments that will make you lot cry! I can't expect to come across what's adjacent with The Wolf And The Sheep!

...moreThe decision of Balto's war against Lucian over the stolen skull ring and undelivered explosives practise not by whatsoever means result in the conclusion of this tale. The paths the characters lives take when the state of war concludes go along you lot glued to pages. I loved reading the way Heath's character grew into a leader while Balto grew into a human being no longer consumed with detest and distrust. The way Balto earned Case's trust and respect to finally develop a bond and put the past behind them. It was all very beautifully done and this book has by far get my favorite.

Later the last cliffhanger, this story had so many different possible conclusions and the author NAILED it!Rescues, revenge, regret, resignation, and redemption are a small fraction of what y'all'll find in this book. The characters are fantastic and have such depth that they seem real. The offset half of the book is dealing with the fallout of Balto's decision at the finish of The Skull Crusher. The second have of the volume is dealing with Balto's promise to free Cassini. The story only slows equally Balto struggles to pull his head out of a nighttime cavity but is brings an even improve understanding of Balto's grapheme. This freakin' story had me crying and so many times that I really had to put the volume downward earlier I could continue (afraid of what was going to happen next). A smashing conclusion with an epilogue (I totally dearest when an author gives us an peek into the futurity of our characters lives) that gives us a wrap up that leaves us with no obvious loose ends.
I wholeheartedly recommend this writer's work. I have read the Buttons, Scotch, Lingerie, Banker, and this series and all are fantastic reads (even if they are serials - and I hate serials).

I wanted to enhance the rating another star. Truly. The other two books had the heroine existence all inadequate and a simpering sexy mess. This book finally had her exist her mans equal of sorts. Disarming a flop, being all stoic in her breakup. Continuing her basis and making him beg for mercy. Just while she gained in strength and nobility the hero was a consummate coward.I have read enough of books where the all powerful leader has a wife and family unit and is able to protect them. It's even more fun when they fail and have to rescue them. PS went the complete other fashion and made THE SKULL KING a soccer dad?!
What happened? Why couldn't he nevertheless be the king with her at his side? In another plot mess, what happened to her money from the wedlock/widower? Why did she have to go a small apartment when she was on her own? Why couldn't her brothers buy her a firm they were making a heap of money from criminal activities? I only don't empathise how nosotros end up in some places with heroines that e'er demand to accept a homo. She said she didn't. I believed her. I'm glad she made him become his priorities correct but it could take been washed without castrating the man!🙃

This has been a fantastic series right from the beginning and the final book certainly did not disappoint. I've read all of Penelope Sky's series and while this trilogy had sure elements that are inherent in near all the of them there were enough plotline differences to keep this series fresh.
Throughout her unlike series based in Italy the 💀Kings have been nowadays in one form or another merely have non been the focal point. Anyone who has read any of her previous series knows that the Skull Kings take ever been portrayed as major badasses of the underworld. In this series the plotline was specifically most them, and their designated "king" at this time. Cassini and Balto had quite the journeying to attain their HEA, it was a wild ride but had a smashing catastrophe. I can't wait for her next serial almost the "Wolf" and his "Sheep" prepare in this same earth. All of Penelope's series are automatically ane-Clicks for me.
It'due south no better when she shows up 2 months afterward to speak to him, but he doesn't let her become a word out before sending her on her fashion. It'due south improve for her that way.
Cassini loves Balto and has no problem admitting it. But she wants someone who wants to exist with her and has no problem saying it- something Balto tin't do. When she shows Balto knows that Cassini deserves better than him. He besides knows the only mode she will get out is if he makes her. So he does. And suffers like hell when she is gone.
It'south no meliorate when she shows upwards ii months later to speak to him, but he doesn't permit her become a word out before sending her on her way. It's better for her that manner.
Cassini loves Balto and has no trouble admitting it. But she wants someone who wants to be with her and has no problem saying information technology- something Balto can't do. When she shows up to tell him she is pregnant and he turns her abroad, she's done chasing him, no matter how heartbroken she is.
When Balto realizes she's dating, he isn't happy. Just when he sees her pregnant belly, he's livid she would hide that from him. It's somewhat of a relief when she tells him information technology's non his baby. Except... he tin can't get her, or the baby, out of his mind. He knows he has to exercise something drastic to testify her he cares.... something like ... leaving the Skull Kings.
